Tuesday April 19th Update

Well today was first meeting of Erin's staff to determine some goals for her. I won't get into all the details here, but the initial outlook was less than stellar. They listed off all kinds of functions and a level at which they are predicting Erin to function at after completion of Rehab at Touro. Of course they cautioned that these were just predictions and they could be moved forward or back each week after evaluating the week's progress. At first it was a little hard to swallow. I have yet to hear any predictions and this left me with more questions than anwsers. I decided this evening that we can't totally get caught up in predictions this early on. Erin has been at Touro for only eight days and I know that she will be kicking it into overdrive once she becomes a little more aware. A friend at work reminded me this morning that, "doctors are practicing medicine, they don't know everything so they are still practicing." I totally respect the doctors and staff but I've known Erin for awhile and she is stubborn and will surprise them.

  1. Hi Dustyn,
Although we haven't met, I've been knowing Erin for over 12 years through various mutual friends and we had a class or two together and hung out at UNO. I just wanted to pass along a bit of optimism for you guys...my husband (an RN) has worked at both Ochsner ICU and Touro Brain Injury/Rehab unit and I've been keeping him updated on Erin's status. He couldn't say enough good things about the team at Touro and their program there. He said that unit takes people from all over the world and she is in a great place for her recovery. I keep you guys in my prayers nightly and think of Erin often. Please give her a hand squeeze for me.

Keeping the Faith in San Antonio!,

  3. There is a lot to be said for the healing power of faith and hope. Researchers and scientists have been studying what they call hope theory as a phenomenon. I like to call it God's grace. Google hope theory.... it should give you some affirmation. Also try reading a little Joel Osteen. I find that even though I consider myself a pretty solid Catholic, his words and real life examples bring encouragement when I need it. His book It's Your Time is filled with examples of overcoming obstacles, rising to the challenge and attaining victorious outcomes through the belief in an all powerful and mighty miracle worker.

    Continued prayers and blessings.

She wa+1 (504) 615-5021+1 (504) 615-5021s actually Ainsley's PE and volleyball coach at that time. It has been my Pleasure to watch Erin grow into this beautiful woman that she is today, although I think we about the same age. My next daughter ,Gracie, just graduated from St. George's last year. She has kept in close contact with Erin. Erin is now a part of Ian's, Gabe's and Frankie's life. Erin has been Part Of our everyday life for a long time. We are so blessed to have her. I have not been to visit, because I want your family to be comfortable, and not be bothered by tons of visitors. The Giardina family is sending tons of love your way. We can't wait for Erin's beautiful face to be back at St George's. All of our love, The Giardina family, John, Britton, Ansley, Gracie, Ian, Gabe and Frankie

  7. Lord, when doubts fill my mind, when my heart is in turmoil, quiet me and give me renewed hope and cheer. Psalm 94:19.

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do but we don't give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. 2 Corinthians 4:17

Dustyn, you and Erin are in our prayers every day. We read your blog daily and are touched by the amazing love that you and so many others have for Erin. It sounds like Erin is one strong and incredible woman, and surely she is so proud of you. Trust God, and He will supply you with everything that you both need to make it through this. Keep your faith and pray without ceasing. We will do the same.
We have shared your story with many people we know. There are many prayers for you and Erin flooding Heaven.......so be watching for answers! :)

    Sincerely,
    Gina and Pat Bush
